Queensland Science Concierge

About the Queensland Science Concierge

The Queensland Science Concierge has been established to coordinate and expedite decision-making by agencies within the Queensland Government regarding their support for significant research and development proposals. The concierge is not a grants program, rather, it’s a service that will coordinate the presentation of major research proposals with senior government decision makers comprising the Queensland Science Advisory Committee.

The Queensland Science Advisory Committee has been established to act as an information-sharing-forum among government agencies for major external funding proposals, and communicate with the proponents of proposals in-principal agency commitment. Members include senior officers from across government (Deputy Director-General level) with an interest in progressing Queensland’s scientific capacity, standing, and merit.

Initially, the concierge will be primarily focussed on applications to the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) program.

Progress so far

In mid-January 2024, eight CRC teams provided presentations to the Queensland Science Advisory Committee to seek feedback on the proposed CRC bid, and to negotiate potential support (co-investment or in-kind).

Where decisions were made to provide in-principle support for a proposed project, the concierge team provided contact details of the supporting agency (or agencies) so the bid lead could undertake further negotiations or discussions directly. In late January 2024, feedback was be provided to all proponents about the success or otherwise of their bid proposal. Relevant Queensland Government departments are now in direct contact with relevant CRC bid teams.
