Frequently asked questions

What is the Queensland Science Concierge?

The Queensland Science Concierge has been established to coordinate and expedite decision-making by agencies within the Queensland Government regarding their support for significant research and development proposals.

The concierge is not a grants program. The concierge is not an evaluation or assessment process, rather, it is a gateway to government. The concierge is a service that will coordinate the presentation of major research proposals with senior government decision makers comprising the Queensland Science Advisory Committee. The Queensland Science Concierge does not identify funding for bids.

Who can use the Queensland Science Concierge?

It is desirable that the lead applicant be a Queensland-based university or research institute (companies and individuals cannot apply) with an ABN and be GST-registered.

How are requests to present made?

Proponents of major research initiatives need to complete the online request to present form for consideration by the concierge.

What occurs at a presentation session?

The concierge team will organise a time for the bid lead and/or relevant representatives to pitch at a meeting of the Advisory Committee. Presentations will be limited to 20 minutes, after which representatives of the Advisory Committee may seek further information. Bids will be evaluated, and interest will be determined by each government agency.

Do organisations need to go through the Queensland Science Concierge in order to apply for funding from government grants/funding programs?

No, organisations with research proposals can apply directly to individual government departments for their grants and other funding programs. Applications to grant or funding programs delivered by Queensland Government departments are assessed and awarded independently of the Queensland Science Concierge.

Participation in the concierge is not mandatory.

Does the concierge have any influence over decisions made by Queensland Government departments?

Any Government department may make a decision about supporting a particular proposal and they may do that individually or together with any number of other departments.
