Queensland Chief Scientist’s committees

Professor Kerrie Wilson chairs a range of committees and forums to build the science ecosystem in Queensland and support evidence-based decision making by the Queensland Government.

Chair roles

  • Interdepartmental Science Committee – facilities two-way sharing of information between the Queensland Government and the research sector about science-related priorities and strategies and intersections with the research sector. A key mechanism of the Interdepartmental Science Committee is the Queensland Science Collaboration Gateway, which streamlines connections between potential research proposals and relevant government agencies
  • Queensland Researchers Leaders Forum – brings together the leaders of universities, medical research institutes, publicly funded research agencies and senior decision-makers within the Queensland Government to facilitate coordinated, large-scale ‘Team Queensland’ strategy development and collaboration and investment attraction opportunities in science, research, and innovation that are of significance for the State.
  • Social Sciences Reference Group – to help solidify Queensland’s position as a source of social science expertise and a global leader in social sciences nationally and internationally.
  • Quantum Innovation Queensland – supports the growth of Queensland’s investment in quantum and associated technologies with members representing the research sector, venture capital, quantum companies and the Queensland Government.
  • Queensland Decarbonisation Hub Steering Committee – drives a coordinated effort to provide evidence-based information to support Queensland’s mission to decarbonising the economy.

Committee member roles

  • Forum of Australian Chief Scientists – brings together Australia’s Chief Scientist and Chief Scientists, or relevant representatives, from the Australian states and territories to share information about common issues related to science, technology and innovation and contribute to national science policy.
  • ARC Life Course Centre Advisory Committee – contributes to the development of strategies and vision for the future relative to the proposed goals and objectives of the ARC Life Course Centre, and by serving as a vehicle for creating better linkages between academia, industry and government to address the issue of disadvantage in Australian communities.
  • Clean Economy Expert Panel – provides advice to the Treasurer, Minister for Energy and Minister for Home Ownership on ways to meet the state’s emissions reduction objectives, with a focus on the state’s pathway to net zero by 2050.

Independent reviews

Queensland Chief Scientist can be engaged to provide independent advice and participate in independent reviews. These may include:

  • informal or desktop review
  • environmental scans that are topical, impactful and of public interest or research focused
  • deep dive into a topic area based on agreed scope of work to address a current or emerging science issue and government priority.
