About the Queensland Science Collaboration Gateway

The objective of the Queensland Science Collaboration Gateway (the Gateway) is to assist collaboration by connecting researchers and government on major science funding proposals.

This objective is enabled through the Request for collaboration form which ensures that the Gateway is accessible, efficient and responsive to the needs of the research sector, strengthening collaboration between researchers and government to drive Queensland’s research capacity and innovation.

The Gateway serves as a central point of contact, connecting researchers with Queensland Government agencies for in-principle support on research funding applications. It is not a grant, funding, evaluation, or assessment program.

Funding schemes in scope

The scope of the Gateway is limited to core funding schemes and proposals that align to the Queensland Government departmental strategic focus areas, meet minimum criteria standards as set from time to time, and represent high impact value.

The core funding schemes in scope of the Gateway include:

The minimum eligibility criteria for the Gateway include:

  • Core Gateway funding scheme – the funding scheme must be included in the core Gateway funding schemes (as published)
  • Collaborative – proposals to the funding scheme must involve at least one partner organisation
  • Significant financial support – proposals are looking to attract considerable cash funding (not including in-kind contributions):
    • $5 million or more for CRC and CoE
    • $1.5 million or more for ITRP
  • Timing – proposals are to be submitted at least 15 weeks prior to closing of funding scheme (unless otherwise agreed)
  • Alignment with science priorities – the proposal aligns with the Queensland Government's science and research priorities.

Any other schemes that are not core Gateway funding schemes but meet all other eligibility criteria, can be considered on an ad hoc basis, in consultation with your University’s Research Office.

The budget outlines the government’s revenue and expenses for the coming year, provides an overview of the state economy, and details the priorities the government will deliver.

Researchers seeking financial support from a Queensland Government department for their research proposals should be aware that some departments may require a minimum of 12 months to initiate a funding request.
