Previous National Science Week celebrations

Each August, we celebrate National Science Week to highlight the contributions of science and technology to our society.

Over the years, we have supported a whole host of activities including setting a Guinness World Record in 2016! Held at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre, 2900 students and teachers converged to break the Guinness World Records title for the largest practical science lesson (unfortunately our record has since been surpassed).

In the past five years, Queensland Chief Scientists have travelled to various parts of the state including Longreach, Cairns, Kuranda and Mackay, engaging with students, researchers, industry and local community members.

Specific sessions have highlighted Queensland’s strengths in quantum, research supporting decarbonising the economy and Indigenous science.
